ESL is necessary Essay - 312 Words

ESL is necessary

Why English is necessary
English is the most popular language in the world now, and learning English is the most important for living in the United States of America. I am an ESL student who is studying in the United States, and I am so sure that English is necessary for everyone. To my mind, the benefits of taking ESL classes can be improve one's academic writing and making more friends.

First of all, taking an ESL course can improve one's academic writing. Most of the people try to learn the second language by themselves either from the website or the library. They usually need a teacher to tell them the correct way to write and speak. For example, students turn in the writing in the class and the next time, the teacher will give back the essay with some comments. Thus, students can find out the weakness quickly and try to improve themselves.

In addition, the effect of taking ESL course, students can make friends with native English speaker more easily. Having the same purpose with their classmates, students can have a lot of common topics and try to meet each other usually out of the class. For instance, students can hang out and keep practicing with their friends. Sometimes, the native English friends help students to correct their pronounces. It gives them more chances to speak and would really improve their ability quickly.

Taking ESL classes is really helpful in student progress at college or university and social students can speak and writing English as a native American and they could make friends with native English speaker more easily. That why learning English is very important, and it also become the common language of whole world. The benefits of taking ESL classes are proved so I highly recommend everyone take it, and it will make your life is more successful.

Proficiency Level Analysis ESL 433N—Advanced Methodologies of Structured English Immersion Grand Canyon University January 18, 2015 Proficiency Level Analysis For this assignment, I will group a seventh grade class into appropriate groups depending on their proficiency levels. There are five English proficiency levels in Ms. Jensen’s class, Pre-Emergent, Emergent, Basic, Intermediate, and Proficient. By looking at the score results of the Arizona English Language Learners Assessment (AZELLA), I will be able to place the students into appropriate groups by placing higher level students with ELL students during in-class activities to help them understand and succeed in their classroom assignments. When looking at the class roster, I noticed that Ramon is at the Pre-Emergent and Emergent level throughout Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking areas so I would place him in a group with students who are mostly at the Intermediate and Proficient Level so he can pick up the English language faster and easier. “Students can be paired or grouped as either ‘like-ability’ or ‘cross-ability’. Cross-ability is where students of different proficiency levels work together and the benefit of cross-ability matching is that the higher-level students can help the lower-help students” (Roberts, 2007). There is a total of fifteen students, therefore I would create five small groups of three. The first group would consist of Ramon, Aryanna, and Carlos. The.

Assignment. Teaching Grammar to ESL Students 1. I used to drink a bottle of vodka a day. (a recovering alcoholic at an AA meeting) STRUCTURE: ‘used’ structure FORM: subject + used to + infinitive B. FUNCTION AND MEANING It talks about an action that happened regularly in the past but no longer happens in the present. C. PROBLEMS WITH… Meaning: Students may think that he is talking about the present, rather than the past. Some learners may use ‘used to’ in place of the simple present (E.g. they might say ‘I used to speak Somali at home’; instead of saying ‘I speak Somali at home’.) students might not understand that used to was a recurring habit in the past rather than it happening once. Form: Student may misunderstand the infinitive regular and irregular. For example, instead of ‘used to’ they may think that it is ‘use to’. Since many learners are familiar with this form to refer to habitual activity in the present, they may think that this is ‘be + used to + ing’ (e.g. I’m used drinking a bottle of vodka a day). It could be that they have not been taught properly or they forget which is which. Pronunciation: students may not realise the pronunciation difference of use and used, for example; they may stress both words the same way ( juːz )instead of pronouncing used (juːzd) omitting ed. Or they may stress every word in the sentence instead of stressing ‘used’ and ‘drink’. D. GENERATIVE CONTEXT: Two pensioners are.

ESL Methods - English Language Teaching The field of linguistics and teaching in the 20th century is marked by the development of different foreign language teaching methods and approaches. Some have no or small following and others are widely used Although modern foreign language teaching has adopted completely new methods, the work of language professionals in the period between 1950 and 1980 contributed significantly to scientific views in the field of second language teaching and learning. Even when methods are not frequently used or have fallen into obscurity, they may offer useful insights into the general teaching methodology. Surely, modern teaching is also based on the elements derived from these methods. What is a method? Before we present the teaching methods and their classification, it would be useful to remember what method is in terms of its definition and application in classrooms. One of the most widespread definitions is a short statement that method is a plan for presenting a certain language material to be learned. It is agreed among linguists that it should be based upon a selected approach. * Yet, not all linguists actually agree on the use of the terms ‘’method’’ and ‘’approach’’. It seems that some linguists tend to cancel the term method; some hold that a certain method is actually an approach or that a certain approach is in fact a method. * Nevertheless, most linguists agree that a certain instructional system must be.

card” which is a police check and working with children check. 3. ESL teachers can get started in the industry by putting themselves out there via online, posting advertisements around their area and contacting any ESL centres/institutions. Depending on what the ESL teacher wants to have a career in, they can search any available jobs overseas using job websites and get some experience overseas before teaching locally; this type of experience will help them gain more opportunities in the local ESL industry. They can also get started by having a home stay if they have the requirements to have one, this will help an ESL teacher slowly start into the industry by indirectly teaching English to the homestay and gets experience dealing with an ESL student without the added pressure of making classroom lessons. 4. Enthusiasm is important when teaching as it will help the lesson feel more lively and less boring to the students, it will also help the students confidence when learning as they will feel like their English is improving when being praised or/and cheered on. 5. In teacher delivery an ESL teacher must maintain firmness and control so the students can focus on learning instead of slacking off, if a teacher is too lenient, students might think they can do whatever they want in class. By controlling the class, students will try to focus more as they want to.

Savaliya “ESL Students” "Anxiety is a basic human emotion consisting of fear and uncertainty" (Sarason, 1988). Anxiety has its good and bad sides. On the one hand it helps avoid dangerous events that can be life threatening. On the other hand it causes people to freeze as they avoid non-dangerous situations. The mind cannot distinguish between what is life threatening or just a stressful situation. "One such event [that causes minds to freeze but is not dangerous] is testing" (Harris & Coy, 2003). Testing is not a dangerous situation. What can be done to trick the mind into believing that testing is not dangerous? "The aim of stress management is to break the link between irrelevant stress reactions (diffused attention, fear, etc.) and academic tasks" (Rubenzer, 1988). This research review will explain the relationship between anxiety and academic reading performance on English as a second language comprehension tests. The writer's aim is to research material for an action research on reading comprehension tests. The problem statement of the action research is that ESL students feel anxious when doing reading comprehension tests. The solution proposed is to use stress relievers to trick the mind into believing there is no danger. ESL students will be taught stress management to relieve anxiety when doing reading comprehension tests. It is believed that once students are relaxed they will be able to perform better. In.

Cultural Issues in ESL One main issue with English being a second language is cultural differences. It brings great distress to most international students who are studying abroad because though they strive to learn with a higher level of excellence and performance, their cultures will always find a way to limit that ambition. It’s hard to be in a classroom with students who do not understand the culture from whence you came. It is also hard to understand your fellow classmates and teachers for they have their own cultures, some of which we might find very different. English is harder to learn when you are placed in that situation, for it is hard to get used to the culture at the same feeling the pressure of studies and socialization. The people in this category are mainly international or exchange students. Given the privilege to study abroad for a better education, these students are hard working and efficient. But the disadvantages are inevitable. There are cultures in their former school that their current school does not practice. Proper behavior, salutations, programs, and methods vary in different schools. Even in local schools, it is hard for some to practice English, because majority of the students’ families could possibly not have the complete knowledge of English, thus speaking incorrect grammar to their children, giving them a confusing perception in English. When materials in class are passed in English, those students who are used to.

BRANDY - THE DEFINITION LYRICS

Brandy - The Definition Lyrics

The definition
(The definition)
Real good
Darkchild

I dropped all that baggage
Let go off that habit
The pain you can have it
Now I'm content with me

I'm lovin' this kid
And I gotta admit
Feels like the beginnin'
Now I'm content with me

It's hard to explain it
Been through it, you name it
The heartache kept breakin'
The shamed played that game

But I, couldn't seem to win
I started to think
Somethin' was wrong with me
'Til I was finally introduced to happy

I made the greatest discovery of mankind
You define the existence of love
And I found it in you
Searched my whole life through
So rare but so true
The definition of love is you

The definition baby, is you
The definition baby, you are

I traded that frown
And bought me a brand new smile
I'm wearin' it proudly
'Cause now I'm content with me

No longer uncertain
I'm sure of the verdict
I'm free and love it
And now I'm content with me

It's hard to explain it
Been through it, you name it
The heartache kept breakin'
The shamed played that game

But I, couldn't seem to win
I started to think
Somethin' was wrong with me
'Til I was finally introduced to happy

I made the greatest discovery of mankind
You define the existence of love
And I found it in you
Searched my whole life through
So rare but so true
The definition of love is you

The definition baby, is you
The definition baby, you are

'Cause I've been diggin' for years
Barely see pass the tears
'Cause I thought my heart had disappeared
But until you came into my life
Made me a new, showed me the truth

I made the greatest discovery of mankind
You define the existence of love
And I found it in you
Searched my whole life through
So rare but so true, the definition of love is you
