Changing the World in Three Easy Steps
We should shave the ducks. I really think they could sport rather nice tattoo work on them. While the students are involved with the scissors and tattoo guns, the faculty could cut intricate patterns in the lawn. Possibly afterward, the resident herbalists will have lunch prepared with various odd plants we rarely eat. If the students at Gulf Coast Community College protest the absence of these things loudly enough, culture might become a little more relevant in the daily drone that is life.
I think if I saw a bald duck, I might just ask “Why the anchor tattoo?” I might just review the comeliness of today’s generation of ducks. I might just choose a favorite duck and talk to him. I might just stop and think. If a few more students just stopped and thought about the world around them, they might just see absurdities in what they thought before. If one person can do this per class per semester, then society might just have to stop and think. A few people might not like my line of reason. Socrates was disliked for his ideas and chose to die for them. I don’t really think shaving birds is worth my life, but it might be fun nonetheless.
A few rumors around Europe suggest that extraterrestrials seem to warm up to patterns cut in tall grasses. I really can’t speak for the validity of the crop patterns relating to alien encounters, but then again, neither can I denounce them. If aliens really like patterns in the lawn, then they might be attracted to the lawns of our college. Of course these “little green men” will scare a few people that are somewhat less than adaptable. They
could disrupt classes for a few days. Yet I think if they can accomplish interplanetary travel, I think they can teach us a thing or two.
After a delightful jaunt around the solar system, our devoted team of herbalists and vegetable gardeners could prepare a lovely soup. I feel that more ingredients than just chicken, rice, and water make a soup worthwhile. Anyone can agree that if there are very few meats that are eaten in this country, then why does the cafeteria have to limit vegetables in much the same manner? I think that artichokes or even a few steamed veggies over a bed of fried rice would be a healthy change. What I would like to see is an international dish at least once a week. I don’t mean a taco plate or a vat of lasagna either. I would like to see hollandaise over asparagus tips and other such festivities. The herbalists could grow a great variety of stuff and devise more than I can think of. They can, at the very least, cook something that doesn’t involve some combination of meat, potatoes, flour, and corn though. I don’t think that a chef is necessary, but a little life couldn’t hurt.
In general, the thing that this college needs most is culture. Bald birds, crop outlines, and asparagus tips may not be the answer, but they can liven up the question. I once defined my idea of culture as “A group of people with similar interests,” now I think “A group of people with interesting similarities” is more to my point. I know that all of the students might not agree with my ideas, but I would like to hear their ideas as well. The methods outlined above may not change the world, but we have to start somewhere. Then someone has to start it. I think I’ll go shave a duck.
The Changing World of
As a daughter living in a strict environment and living in a traditional
ways things get a little rough. My father is center of the household so basically
everything he says goes. In the western world it?s usually the other way around
it?s usually both the parents that have a say in things. In my society(Muslim
society) my mother has a say in nothing unless my father asks. My mother is an
excellent mother but she mustn?t say anything or it would be considered not being
a good wife. As I get older I am always dreading the day I am asked to be
married. I know times have changed but I have a major dilemma. Am I going to
marry or continue my education? The problem is I like working with medicine and
I want to further my education by going to college. But that requires a minimum
of six years university attendance and if I want more degrees that another five
years. Most of my medical friends that are females married and had children while
they were studying in college. I don?t want that to be me. I want to actually
finish something I start. My father isn?t exactly helping me with the situation.
He hates the fact that I want to work. In his case women are not supposed to
work unnecessarily if their husbands can provide for them(or their fathers can
provide for them if their not married) but in a place like Saudi Arabia where men
and women don?t mix at work working just enhances the mind and makes one
wiser to the ways of the world. In my mothers opinion women become better
companions to their husbands who should be more understanding and supportive.
I feel that instead of being selfish we can work out ways that help us be good
mothers wives and also continue with our needs of life. If education is one such
need then there are ways to acquire it without causing disturbance. I think my
father needs to catch up with the rest of the Muslim world instead of staying in
the traditional ways. He said when I finish or if I finish my medical school he
would refuse permission to let me work in a hospital. I guess some things will
never change. The only person this dilemma is affecting is me. No one else has to
go through my challenge of being a women over coming these obstacles but me.
Hopefully their will be other women that follow in my foot steps and make a
difference for all women or at least try. Women have come a long way but they
are coming up in the world and no one can stop us.

The Effects of Power on Responsibility
Power and responsibility have a complex relationship that is connected by factors such as a person’s morals and ethics, personality, and under what conditions the person was raised. In a world where power can be found in many forms and in many places, the use and abuse of power can be seen regularly. Power is not just being the CEO of a fortune five-hundred company, or being an elected political representative, the manager of Taco Bell has power, as well as parents as they raise their children. These are the people who have the most influence on how power is used, and if it is used with responsibility. In the United states there are five-hundred and thirty-five congressmen, a president, and a vice-president, whereas there are two-hundred and ninety-eight million citizens. Elected officials represent a microscopic piece of the population, while the citizens are the ones who raise children, teach children, and own and operate businesses, and ultimately keep the country running. Real power lies within the common person, and their use of power to influence those around them to have higher standards of responsibility and morals, because if responsibility is taught well and people have good morals, the use of power will not be abused.
When a person is given power, they become more responsible to society, because that power should give them the ability to accomplish certain things that were previously out of their reach. But that does not mean that their morals, or view of their responsibility to society has changed, it means that they now have the capacity to accomplish things that they could only have imagined before they gained their power. If Lance Armstrong had not been a world c.

. come. The morals of those in power also have a very strong influence on how their power is used. A person in power with good morals can achieve great things, like Lance Armstrong, or terrible things like Dick Cheney. When using power one needs to keep in mind who it will effect and how it will effect them. Acting in a selfless manner with the best interest of those around you is best way to combine power and responsibility. Ultimately power and responsibility will be the reason why and when the world ends, so use power and responsibility in a complimentary fashion, rather than trying to separate the two.

Essay about Personal Responsibility in Education - School in America is a stuffed animal. Shot dead on arrival but preserved by elitist taxidermy, we cling to the fallacy that it is alive and well. If anyone who cared witnessed the totality of my high school (or middle or elementary, for that matter) career, they wouldn’t have let me graduate. Not only did I learn next to nothing, I barely did anything. Teachers were apparently satisfied with dull essays lacking insight, obviously BSed or copied homework, and intelligence-insulting lies I fed them to keep my 84% in their class. [tags: Education]

Freedom of Speech and Expression and Responsibility - Freedom of Speech and Responsibility No matter how fervently someone believes in the justice of his cause, suppression of the free exchange of ideas is failure at best or downright wrong. Few people, if any, would judge "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" to be subversive or wrong. In 1939 Ambassador Kennedy was so caught up in the fears of the times that he was willing to use the power of his money to protect the world against a film. [tags: Argumentative Persuasive Topics]
